DDSL Football for All Meeting
Monday 5th September 7pm Abbottstown

To all DDSL Club Secretaries

Please note that there will be a meeting for all clubs who are interested in participating in the new DDSL Football for All League to begin the weekend of Sat/Sun 24th/25th Sept.

We are holding a Football for All meeting next Monday 5th Sept in Abbotstown from 7pm to 8.30pm. All are welcome.

This meeting will discuss all issues i.e. Age Groups//Ability Grading/Format/Mini World Cup Tournaments etc & we will be looking for feedback from existing FFA clubs & any ideas from new people/clubs.

The games will be run every two weeks or so & days/times can be agreed between clubs.

The League itself will be a provisional League…similar to the early set up of the current SSG. This will allow us to receive input over the next few months…from clubs/managers/parents & of course the players. This will allow us to have the correct format going into 2023.

There will be an official launch of the DDSL Football for All League in Irishtown on Saturday 8th Oct 2022. On the day we will run another ‘Mini World Cup’ where we will have 16 teams at the different age groups & up to 150 players attending.

Update: Girls Football Development Strategy 2021-2023

Welcome to the new season 2022-2023. I’d like to take this opportunity to update you on the progress and development of Girl’s football in the Dublin & District Schoolboys’Girls’ League.

Season 2021-2022

Last season saw our Girls League expand to 20 Divisions with 180 teams across 7 age groups from U8 to U14, with 2,600 girls participating.

Remarkable figures by any standards which clearly reflect the growing popularity of the game which will no doubt receive a further boost following the recent Women's Euro Championship.

Cup Finals 2022-2023

The highlight of the season was no doubt the first ever DDSL Girls Cup Finals. There were 4 finals played from u11 to u14. There is no doubt it will remain long in the memories of those present that Sunday in May. The quite staggering crowds present at the games and the after match presentations were amazing.

The participation and support of all (players/managers/mentors/parents) was incredible. Roll on next seasons finals.

Inside Out Camps

Inside Out Camp is a camp for 12 to 14 year olds to help with mental health issues going into Secondary school. The idea behind the camps is a proactive approach to teen mental health. The more confident our kids are in themselves the more resilient they will be in dealing with life’s challenges so camp is all about learning about themselves in a fun non-academic environment. It is all about laying the foundations for a stronger more positive mindset from a young age.

Clubforce DDSL Cup Finals 2022

The Clubforce DDSL Cup Finals 2022 will take place in the AUL, Dublin across the weekend 13th/14th/15th May. You can buy tickets for any of the days or for the full weekend. Please advise all involved with the team, including Parents, that cash will not be taken at the gate. Entry is by prepaid ticket only.

Tickets can be purchased through Clubforce. The cost is €5 per day per adult with a weekend ticket of €10. Please click HERE

The use of prepaid tickets is a new development for the League, arising from instructions from the Gardaí who will not permit the queueing of cars outside the gate of the AUL complex. This was a problem when we last held the event pre covid, which led to a serious health and safety issue with cars having to queue on the ‘country” road outside the complex. The Gardaí have advised that if queueing occurs, cars will be moved on and will not be permitted to enter the complex.

On Saturday 19th February 2022, St John Bosco FC and Swords Celtic Football for All teams

On Saturday 19th February 2022, St John Bosco FC and Swords Celtic Football for All teams played their first ever football match courtesy of Knocklyon Utd. The fabulous Brickfields All Weather Community pitch was the venue for a thrilling afternoon's action, with Knocklyon's u9s taking on Swords Celtic, and the 10-14s group facing St John Bosco.

There was nothing but positivity and praise from the huge crowd of spectators, and the children on the pitch showed passion, skill and immense sportsmanship.

The players walked out together to the Champions League music before shaking hands and settling in to the match.

The flexibility within the rules allowed all abilities to be actively involved, and the referee/ facilitators on both pitches were fantastic. There were thrilling passages of play, some resulting in great tackles or saves, others involving fantastic goals.

Jack Blakley Cup
08/02/2022

The DDSL are delighted to announce that the Jack Blakley Cup has been returned to the League after a long absence.

It is indeed an extraordinary story. The cup was found buried in the grounds of Mount Pleasant Lawn Tennis Club sometime in the mid to late 70s by Des Donaldson, a former Glenmore Cel player, most likely dumped as a result of a burglary.

Very little is known about the history of the cup as the base is missing.

What we do know is that it was played for at U17 level in the DDSL in the early 70s, St Josephs beating Cherry Orchard on penalties in the 73/74 competition on penalties. The game was played mid week at Santry Avenue.

DDSL CELEBRATES THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF SPORT FOR DEVELOPMENT AND PEACE 2021
05/04/2021

IDSDP held every April, 6 aims at recognizing the contribution sports can make to people's lives.

This year, we interviewed Mark Clohessy, the league's ETP Director of Football. We spoke about the importance of sports for society; how the pandemic has affected sports, and much more.

When asked about the importance of sports for society, he says: The role of sports in society cannot be underestimated especially in today's society. Sports provide a sense of community to all, and the inclusiveness sport brings can only benefit society as a whole.

Knowing that the pandemic has affected our lives in an immeasurable dimension, he observes "With no sports being played during this pandemic, it has taken a huge toll on the physical and mental well being of all society and not just children.

With that in mind, we are hopefully closer to a return to sport as we know it, and teams, managers, and individuals can pull together to help any person that has been affected by this pandemic."

The league's ETP Director of Football also remembered why days like today are so important in our lives: This day is an important celebration of all that is good in Sports. As we all know, Sport has the power to drive social change, community-personal development, and well being. So, for the UN to promote this day and all sporting organizations to get behind it will be phenomenal especially in the times that we are living in now.

We know people are living in very challenging times, but our team is here to support you. STAY SAFE
